What is HeART & Soul
Richmind WA’s HeART & Soul program provides an opportunity for creative expression through art workshops and exhibitions. It involves a series of workshops, guided by professional artists, where people are encouraged to explore their emotions and experiences through painting, pottery and poetry.
Bringing Richmind WA consumers and members of the public together in a shared creative space, the program helps break down barriers and reduce stigma around mental health. Participants work side by side without judgement. They create a genuine sense of belonging, acceptance and community integration. The workshops help lower levels of distress and anxiety and improve participants’ moods.
Led by Richmind WA Principal Artist in Residence, David Giles, the HeART & Soul program aims to promote community participation and social connection with like-minded people. It’s a safe place to connect with the community whilst boosting confidence and fostering a sense of achievement.
The initiative was originally set up in 2023 as a distraction for people during the Christmas festive season, as this can often be an overwhelming time for people who are grieving, enduring a family breakdown, or living with poor mental health. The program offers a creative outlet for participants accessing Richmind WA services. It supports them to channel energy and focus on their mental health recovery.
