Why be informed about trauma? Trauma has been identified as prevalent amongst people that access mental health and other community services. Consequently, knowledge of trauma and its effects is essential when providing recovery focused services. Drawing from current Australian and international research and practice guidelines, the half-day session provides an overview of what it means to be trauma informed and how to introduce the core principles of trauma informed practice to your organisation.

1. Describe trauma and its impacts
2. Discuss the way individuals cope & manage the impact of trauma
3. Respond compassionately to trauma responses observed in others
4. Apply the key principles of trauma informed care to your individual practice
