A celebration of belonging, inspiration and togetherness
We were thrilled to see 200 enthusiastic Richmind WA staff come together on the banks of the Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River) at Burswood on Swan to celebrate our 2nd Unite & Ignite (U&I) Day on 19 March 2026.
It was an opportunity to come together as an organisation and share in a day dedicated to connection, belonging, celebration and learning. Throughout the day, team members learned more about our different services and programs, honoured our people’s length of service and contributions, celebrated our shared achievements and plans for the future, and participated in a variety of activities designed to delight and inspire.
We were lucky to secure an outstanding guest speaker for the day, Karan Nagari, aka That Blind Guy. He delivered a moving, thought-provoking presentation featuring moving, deeply personal stories. His anecdotes, practical advice and life journey inspired and motivated everyone in the room to keep doing the incredible work they do.
Our fascinating Connect and Collaborate breakout activities provided a valuable opportunity to step back from their day-to-day roles, relax, create and engage with colleagues across the organisation and external storytellers. Staff chose from a range of activities, including:
- Laughter Yoga delivered by Kim from our Albany Fellowship House team
- An interactive workshop exploring how we may support those who support others
- Aboriginal Truth Telling and Cultural Knowledge Experience led by Steven Jacobs from In Culture Tours
- A mini design sprint using human-centred design tools, facilitated by the team at Third Story
- HeART & Soul creative expression activity guided by David Giles, Creative Therapies Program Coordinator
- Practice Panel Discussions: Day in the life
Huge thanks to all our staff and expo participants, including AccessPay, Sonder, ME Bank and HESTA, who developed, built and staffed 17 creatively decorated Expo Stands, and offered their time, advice and expertise on the day. Our heartfelt thanks also go to our generous prize sponsors HESTA and ME Bank for providing some fabulous draw prizes.
2026 Koora-Yey-Benang (service) Awards
As part of our commitment to creating a ‘great place to work for great people’, we showed our appreciation and thanked our long-serving staff with our Koora-Yey-Benang Awards. A cohort of 24 staff members celebrated milestones for 5, 10 and 15 years of service at Richmind WA. The dedication of each award winner has helped shape our culture of purpose, belonging and inclusion. Congratulations to our 2026 recipients.
A global feast
In keeping with the theme of Harmony Week and Neurodiversity Week, teams from across the organisation gathered for a day focused on Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging. Staff from a range of diverse backgrounds took on the role of hosts, providing a diverse and delicious range of food, decor and culture to those they welcomed to their tables. The cultural themes included: Aboriginal, Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, England, Ethiopia, former Yugoslavia/The Balkans, India, Korea, Latin America, Northern Ireland, Philippines, Polynesia, Southern Africa, Sri Lanka, Wales, and Zambia. Thank you to all participants.
We left U&I Day 2026 feeling inspired, appreciated and reconnected, and look forward to continuing talking, sharing and learning from each other to build and maintain authentic relationships across the organisation.
