Overview
The Karratha Step Up/Step Down Service will be a community-based residential mental health service that provides care for people living in the Pilbara region experiencing mental health challenges, for up to 28 days.
When ‘stepping down’ from a hospital admission, we provide support to help them return home, feeling confident about managing their mental health.
When ‘stepping up’ from home, we support people to manage a decline in their mental health, while remaining close to friends and family, and in their community. This can help people avoid going to hospital when they are becoming unwell.
We will have six individual home-like units and provide 24/7 care.
Who do we support?
People of all backgrounds and identities will be welcome. We understand that you know yourself best and have valuable insights into your own recovery.
The Karratha Step Up/Step Down Service will be available for those aged 18 and over, living in Karratha and the Pilbara Region, with a mental health diagnosis that does not require hospital treatment. Referrals for those aged 16-17 will be considered on an individual basis.
How does it work?
The Karratha Step Up/Step Down Service will be delivered by mental health professionals who will offer a range of supports so you can understand more about yourself and what a meaningful life looks like for you.
Staff, residents and support people will work together to create a safe space to help you reach your recovery goals.
All residents in the service will participate in our core recovery program: Roadmap to Recovery. A range of elective groups will also be offered based on residents’ interests. This may include:
- Healthy cooking
- Mindfulness
- Creative expression
- Healing through music
