The Yellow Bench Project

The Yellow Bench Project transforms everyday spaces into places of connection, helping Western Australians find the courage to show up and listen, and bridge the gap between formal mental health services and community-based prevention.

A simple invitation to connect.

The Yellow Bench Project is helping make conversations about mental wellbeing more visible in communities across Western Australia.

You may have seen a bright yellow bench in a public space, workplace, school or community setting. More than just a seat, it is a visible reminder that connection matters and that small moments of support can make a difference.

Led by Richmind WA, the project encourages everyday acts of courage: checking in, listening without judgment and showing up for the people around us.

Why Yellow Bench?

Mental health affects families, workplaces and communities right across Western Australia. As demand for support continues to grow, connection has never been more important.

The Yellow Bench Project was created around a simple idea: when people feel seen, heard and supported, they are more likely to reach out and stay connected. The project helps make those moments of connection easier to start and easier to find.

A symbol of courage, connection and care

Yellow Benches are placed in everyday spaces as a visible invitation to pause, connect and check in.

Each bench links to practical information and community resources through a QR code, helping people find simple tools, guidance and support when they need it.

Together, the benches and the Resource Hub help make mental wellbeing support part of everyday life.

The bench is only the beginning

The Yellow Bench website and Resource Hub contain practical tools, stories and information designed to help people feel more confident supporting someone they care about.

Whether you’re curious about the project, looking for conversation tips, or exploring ways to support mental wellbeing in your community, you’ll find resources to help you take the next step.
